Ivo Viktor

Ivo Viktor ( born May 21, 1942 in Křelov ) is a former Czechoslovak football player and current football coach. He is regarded as a living legend in the Czech Republic. Since 1975, a youth tournament named " Ivo Pohár Viktora " is played every year. The best goalkeeper in a football season in the Czech Republic received the Ivo Viktor Prize ( Czech Cena Ivo Viktora )

Playing career

Ivo Viktor began at the goalkeeper position as a 14 -year-old Spartak Šternberk. In 1960 he transferred to Železárny Prostějov, 1961 RH Brno and 1962 to Spartak ZJS Brno. From 1963 until his retirement in late 1977, he played for Dukla Prague. " Víta " as Ivo Viktor was also called, completed a total of 316 first division matches. In 1966, he was employed for the first time in the Czechoslovak national team, 62 other games followed, including 17 as captain.

With Viktor Dukla in 1964 and 1966 Czechoslovak champion in 1965, 1966 and 1969 Czechoslovak Cup winner.

Viktor was five times: in 1968, 1972, 1973, 1975 and 1976 was elected Czechoslovak Footballer of the Year. With Czechoslovakia he was European champion in 1976, he also was voted the best goalkeeper of the tournament. This year, he finished third in the election to the European Footballer of the Year.

In 1977, he was forced, due to problems with the back muscles to end the active career.

Coaching career

After 1977 Viktor worked as a goalkeeping coach at Dukla Prague and the national team. In the season 1990/91 he took over as head coach of the team Duklas. Later he worked for the Czech national team.

Today, he still works with the Czech Football Association and operates summer camps for young goalkeepers. It also has its own football school for 10 - to 14- year-old goalkeeper at Meteor Prague.
