Jaak Tamm

Jaak Tamm ( born February 25, 1950 in Tallinn, † January 4, 1999 ) was an Estonian politician.

Life and Politics

Jaak Tamm completed his studies in 1973 at the State University of Tartu (true ) from. From 1968 to 1975 he worked as an assistant at the Laboratory of Sociology at the State University of Tartu. From 1975 to 1979 Tamm was employed as a Research Associate at the Institute of Education in the Estonian capital Tallinn. In 1979 he received a doctorate in psychology for candidates of science. From 1979 to 1985 Tamm worked as a project manager at Business Consulting Mainor.

Then Tamm went into politics. From 1985 to 1987 he was Minister of Construction of the Estonian SSR. From 1987 to 1990 Tamm served as director of the press group Kodamu. From April 1990 to December 1991 he was Minister of Industry and Energy of the Republic of Estonia in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Edgar Savisaar. Shortly after regaining of Estonian Independence Tamm founded in December 1991, together with others, the liberal Estonian Coalition Party ( Eesti Koonderakond ) and became its first chairman of the party.

From 1992 to 1996 held the office of Tamm Mayor of Tallinn. 1998/99 was Tamm until his early death at the age of 48 years Mayor of Sillamäe in northeastern Estonia.
