Jaap van Zweden

Jaap van Zweden ( born December 12, 1960 in Amsterdam) is a Dutch violinist and conductor.

Biography

Jaap van Zweden took his first violin lessons at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. He began his active career in 1976, where he was already at the age of 19 years one of the concertmaster of the Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam. He held until 1991 position. Subsequently, he was a conductor in various European countries, he undertook, for example, tours with the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra and the Israeli Chamber Orchestra.

From 1996 to 2000 he was chief conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of the Netherlands, with whom he undertook concert tours to England and the United States.

The Residence Orchestra The Hague, he led from 2000 to 2005, and since then he is Honorary Conductor of the orchestra. Since 2005 Jaap van Zweeden chief conductor and artistic director of the Netherlands Radio Orchestra. He is a frequent guest conductor of various internationally renowned orchestra.

Since 2008, he has contracts as principal conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Antwerp and as artistic director of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
