Jabu Khanyile

Jabu Khanyile ( born February 28, 1957 in Soweto, † 12 November 2006) was a South African musician and lead singer of the band Bayete.

Life

Khanyile was forced after the death of his mother was 14 years old, cancel his education and earn his livelihood. His father was a miner and led traditional a cappella songs. His brother John played in a reggae and soul cover band. Khanyile also turned to music and became a member of the local band The Daffodils. In 1974 he joined his brother's band John The Editions as a drummer, later became the lead singer of the band. In 1977 he moved to The Movers, and in 1984 came Khanyile Bayete as drummer. The band joined Afro - jazz and reggae. Bayete broke up in 1992, and Khanyile began a solo career with releases under the name Jabu Khanyile & Bayete, although none of the original members Bayete was involved. Khanyile became internationally known after he performed in honor of Nelson Mandela in 1996 at the Royal Gala evening.

Khanyile became internationally with Youssou N'Dour, Angelique Kidjo and Papa Wemba. He was known for his pan-African attitude attitude to music and tried to connect different African styles. He usually came in a Maasai costume costume on with a fly whisk, a symbol of African kings.

2005 Khanyile occurred at the Live 8 concert in Johannesburg. For the last time he entered the public on July 2006, when the transfer of the Football World Cup was held in South Africa in Berlin.

He died in November 2006 from diabetes and prostate cancer.
