Jack Cady

Jack Andrew Cady ( born March 20, 1932 in Columbus, Ohio; † January 14, 2004 in Port Townsend, Washington) was an American author of science fiction, fantasy and horror novels, short stories and novels.

Life

Cady worked from 1952 initially for four years for the Coast Guard in Maine before he began studying at the University of Louisville, from which he graduated in 1961 with a bachelor's degree. He fought with various odd jobs, from the auctioneer to the truck driver, who later provided him with material for his stories. His first ( unpublished ) novel, he tapped on the seat of his truck with an old typewriter. Soon, the first success came, and he won in 1965 with the short story The Burning the Atlantic Monthly ' First' Award. His first book, The Burning & Other Stories, published in 1972, contains this short story and others which had already been published in prestigious American anthologies.

In fact, his profession made ​​Cady writing but not until 1974, when he moved to Washington and took a job there as a creative writing teacher at the University of Washington. He taught this subject at several universities throughout the United States, before returning to Washington on the Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma and taught there until his retirement in 1992.

Cady was never a convenient author, he covered a variety of topics and genres and celebrated no continuous commercial success despite its class. Nevertheless, he remained productive until his death and published solely in his last decade of life seven books in four different publishers.

In his private life Cady was married twice, his second wife, the writer Carol Orlock, and leaves four children from his first marriage.
