Jack Lambert (association footballer)

John "Jack" Lambert ( born 2 May 1902 in Rotherham, † December 7, 1940 in Enfield ) was an English footballer.

Life and career

After a trial with Sheffield Wednesday, where he was not accepted, Lambert began his football career with Rotherham County in 1922. As a large and robust striker Lambert was very well known. He made his first move to Leeds United. In January 1925 he was engaged by the Doncaster Rovers. In 1926 it went for 2,000 pounds for Arsenal. His debut for the Gunners he gave on September 6, 1926 against Bolton Wanderers. With the team he was 1930 English Cup and 1931 and 1933 English champion. In October 1933, he was sold to Fulham. In 1935, he ended his active career. After a year as a coach at FC Margate 1938 he returned back to Arsenal, where he was coach of the second team. Lambert died in 1940 in a car accident near Enfield as 38 - year-old.
