Jackson, California

Jackson ( formerly Botilleas, Botilleas Spring, Bottileas, Bottle Spring or Botellas ) is a city and county seat of Amador County, California, United States. In 2010 there were 4,657 inhabitants registered, according to 3,989 in 2000.

Jackson is located at an altitude of 371 meters. The State Route 49 and State Route 88 leading into the city

History

Originally, the area was inhabited by Native Americans from the region of the northern Sierra Nevada. The city was founded in 1848 and named after Colonel Alden Jackson. 1853 Jackson became the county seat of the newly formed Amador County. 1851-1852 the city was the seat of Calaveras County. Thus, Jackson is the only U.S. city that was the seat of two counties at different times.
