Jacó, Costa Rica

Jacó (debate in Costa Rica Hako ) is a coastal town on the Costa Rican Pacific coast and capital of the canton Garabito in the province of Puntarenas.

Jacó is located directly on the coast road Costanera Sur, from which a branch leads through the village and there the only main street is Avenida Pastor Díaz. Along the main street there are all kinds of shops, banks and restaurants. The side streets lead to the beach or to the Costanera Sur.

Official figures for population are not made, the estimates range 3000-6000 inhabitants. The authorities estimate about 4,500 inhabitants, of whom about a third Costa Rican, a third of foreigners with temporary residence permit unlimited ( " Residential " ) and another ( frequently changing ) are third labor, especially in the tourism sector. The number of tourists is about 35,000 beds. In Jacó is a branch of the tourist police formed in Costa Rica in 2007.

The beach of Jacó and the beaches in the nearby area ( in the north of Herradura, Hermosa, Estilleros Oeste and Este Estilleros in the south) are visited because of the favorable wind conditions primarily by surfers. Other ways of tourist activities can be found in the west of the coast road adjacent rainforest.

About 17 kilometers north of Jacó is the Carara National Park and about 60 kilometers south of the Manuel Antonio National Park.
