Puntarenas Province

Puntarenas is a province of Costa Rica. It lies in the west of the country and occupies most of its Pacific coast one. Neighbouring provinces are (clockwise) Guanacaste, Alajuela, San José and Limón and the State of Panama.

The capital is Puntarenas. The province has an area of ​​11,266 km ² and 410 929 (2011) inhabitants.

For the province also includes the islands of Isla del Caño (20 km) and Isla del Coco (500 km), probably assisted the novel Treasure Island. The " Inter -American Highway ," the Central American part of the Pan-American Highway, runs through the province. In the south, most of the over 300 stone spheres of Costa Rica were found.
