Jacob de Haan (composer)

Jacob de Haan ( born March 28, 1959 in Heerenveen, Friesland Province, The Netherlands ) is a contemporary Dutch composer and musician. He also published works under the pseudonyms Dizzy Stratford, Ron and Tony Sebregts Jabovsky.

Life and career

The son of a music instrument maker he got quite early piano lessons with Martin Kuipers and Kornettunterricht with Jan Holtrop at the music school in his hometown. Also, early on, he played flugelhorn ( Bugel ) in the famous Brass Band Pro Rege from Heerenveen. The age of 14, he composed three quartets for brass and a Divertimento for Flute and Piano. At age 16, he was ordered to him as organist of a reformed church in Heerenveen, and he made acquaintance with the Dutch and international " organ music ". This has in his compositions, especially for wind, into it.

He graduated from the Conservatory in Leeuwarden, where he studied music education at Hiepko H. Boer and band - directorate Henk van Loo, and later the main organ with Piet Post and Jan Jongepier. He then taught at several Dutch music schools. He lives in Rotterdam and is dedicated primarily to the composition and arranging.

In a composition contest, which was announced by the Dr.- Dazert Foundation in cooperation with the International Federation and the Euregio music via salina, won de Haan 2007 with his Missa Katharina the first place. It was premiered on 21 October 2007 in the Basilica Ottobeuren.

His brother Jan de Haan is also a composer.
