Jacobus Kloppers

Jacobus Kloppers ( born 1937 in Krugersdorp ) is a South African organist, composer and musicologist.

Life

Kloppers earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Potchefstroom and a degree in organ from the University of South Africa. In 1961, he graduated through the German Academic Exchange Service with Helmut Walcha at the Musikhochschule Frankfurt. Next he studied musicology at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt, where he received his doctorate in 1966 on the organ works of Johann Sebastian Bach.

From 1966 to 1976 he taught organ and musicology at the University of Bloemfontein. In 1976 he emigrated with his family to Canada, where he teaches as an adjunct professor at the University of Alberta. In addition to his scientific work, he has composed over 60 works for organ.
