Jacques Antoine Charles Bresse

Jacques Antoine Charles Bresse ( born October 9, 1822 in Vienne, † May 22, 1883 in Paris) was a French engineer and mathematician.

Bresse was first Ingénieur des ponts et chaussées, then Repetent the mechanics at the École des Ponts et Chaussées and geodesy at the École Polytechnique (APC 1851). In 1871 he became professor of mechanics at the École Polytechnique in 1874 and at the École des Ponts et Chaussées in Paris. Since 1880 he was a member of the Paris Academy.

In recognition of his services he was awarded 5th place among the 72 names on the Eiffel Tower.
