Jacques Auxiette

Jacques Auxiette ( born December 3, 1940 in Monlevicq, Canton Chatre ) is a French politician and member of the Socialist Party (PS). Since 2004, he is elected for seven years president of the Pays de la Loire region.

Education and work

He began his training in Montlucon ( Allier ). Then he graduated from the University of Clermont- Ferrand in the scientific branch and graduated with the degree in Mathematics from. In the years 1964-1969 he did his military service in Tunisia, before he was from 1970 teacher of mathematics at the Lycée Pierre- Mendès -France. From 1983 to 1998 he was principal at a public school. Jacques Auxiette is a widower and has two children.

Political career

His political career began in the late 1960s with the active employment in the oldest and largest French Student Union Union nationale des étudiants de France ( UNEF ), he is since 1973 a member of the Socialist Party and was the same year the Secretary-General in La Roche- sur -Yon. From 1986 to 1990 he was also general secretary of the provincial party.

In 1977 he successfully ran for mayor of La Roche- sur- Yon and held that office for 27 years, in 1979, he was for four years also Chancellor of the split in half in 1973 canton La Roche- sur -Yon -Nord. In 1986, he was confirmed in this office he still holds. Since 1994 he is also vice president of inter-communal association " Communauté des Communes du Pays Yonnais " and has been re-elected several times.

Other national and international functions

Since 1984 he is a member of the Board of Association of French Mayors and in personal union member of the grouping of French medium-sized cities. From 1983 to 1987 he was Chairman of the National School Inspectorate (ENA ) and the " Conseil Supérieur de la Fonction Publique Territorial " ( CSFPT ) and remained, following the French tradition, the public sector closely linked.

1989 Auxiette was also president of the company founded in 1980 " Groupement des Autorités Responsables de Transport " ( GART ), an association of 263 organizational units in transportation. These include 185 metropolitan regions and urban agglomerations, 59 departments and 19 regions. Jacques Auxiette applies to modernize the public transport (LPT ) and in particular in efforts to decentralize the Transport express régional (TER) played a decisive role. He is chairman of the Transport Commission in Conseil des communes et régions d'Europe ( CCRE ).

Other important international tasks sees Jacques Auxiette in decentralization, sustainable development, peace and the promotion of international partnerships. He was a member of the French delegation of the " World Federation of Cités Unies " ( UTO ) at the global conference in Johannesburg in South Africa. He is a member of the " Association Française du conseil des communes et régions d'Europe " ( AFCCRE ) and a founding member of the newly formed "Cities & Local Government United".
