Jacques Philippe Raymond Draparnaud

Jacques Philippe Raymond Draparnaud ( born June 3, 1772 in Montpellier, † February 2, 1804 ) was a French naturalist, botanist and malacologist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Drap. ".

Life and work

Jacques Philippe Raymond Draparnaud was from 1794 to 1804 professor of physics and chemistry at the College of Sorèze, for grammar of Hérault and of medicine at the University of Montpellier. In Montpellier, he was also the director of the Botanic Garden. His main work is to shortly after his death, published Histoire naturelle of Mollusques terrestres et fluviatile de la France on molluscs, which later became the name " father of French Malacology " brought him.

Ehrentaxon

Xavier Montrouzier (1820-1897) named in his honor the animal genus Draparnaudia from the class of snails.
