Jacques Widerkehr

Jacques Christian Michel Widerkehr ( born April 18, 1759 in Strasbourg, † in April 1823 in Paris) was a French cellist and composer of classical music.

Life

Jacques Widerkehr received his education, according to contemporaries of Franz Xaver Richter, Kapellmeister at the Strasbourg Cathedral. He himself, however, referred to himself in the prefaces his violin duets Op. 3 and 4 as a student of a cello teacher named Dumonchau. From 1783 worked Widerkehr in Paris, as a cellist at the Concert spiritual and as a freelance cello teacher and composer. Adolphe Adam to have received lessons from him in harmony.

His most famous works are several symphonies concertante for various wind instruments. In addition to two lost symphonies and some vocal works, some of revolution hymns, he created especially chamber music.
