Jade Warrior (band)

Jade Warrior are an English musical group formed in 1970, 1978 and 1984 temporarily resolved reform. Belonged to the original line-up Tony Duhig ( * 1941 - † 1990, guitar), Jon Field ( flute, percussion, keyboards, cello) and Glyn Havard (vocals, bass). The first self-titled LP joined poetry, African rhythms and experimental rock music with strong improvisation shares. Fairy-tale themes, unusual soundscapes and unusual instrumentation should determine all other albums by Jade Warrior. Despite the similarities to the music of Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Jethro Tull and the early Pink Floyd they always pursued a very specific concept that " all stylistic boundaries blew up " ( Rockmusiklexikom, Christian Graf) between rock (music), jazz, folk and e- music. The first three albums published by the relevant progressive rock label Vertigo Records.

In 1974 she switched to Iceland and parted it by bassist and vocalist Glyn Havard. Now held purely instrumental to Jade Warrior further away from the usual rock band format. She joined the vitality of popular music with the sensitivity to timbre and dynamics, as they are otherwise known only from the concert music. Tony Duhig and Jon Field worked with women's choirs and chamber ensembles ( harp, string quintet ). Improvisation played shares still however, a great role, which ideally complemented with the open band occupation. So put guest soloists such as Steve Winwood (keyboards), Fred Frith of Henry Cow ( viola) and Tony Duhigs brother Dave ( lead guitar ) surprising touches on the next albums. Often traditional natural phenomena as on " Waves " or myths and legends as on " Kites " the thematic framework for the music.

The band paused in 1978 with the album " Way Of The Sun". On the label of " Pulse" they reported back in 1984. The death of guitarist Tony Duhig made for another break. First published in 1992 with "Breathing The Storm " is a new project on the label Voiceprint Records. This was followed a year later the album "Distant Echoes". Then there was a long silence around the band. It was only in 2008, "Jade Warrior" reported back with their new album " Now" and with a new, "old" Cast: Jon Field, Glyn Havard and Dave Sturt.
