Jaigaon (also Jaygon or Jaigon; Bengali: জয়গাঁ, Jaẏgā ) is a city in the Indian state of West Bengal on the border of the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan with about 40,000 inhabitants. Jaigaon together with the Bhutanese town Phuentsholing de facto joint town on the left bank of river Torsa.

From India, Jaigaon is reachable by bus from Siliguri 160 km away and also from Darjeeling or Kalimpong on a road through fortified.

The border between the two neighboring countries can be passed within the city limits of Indians and Bhutanese excluding border formalities.

For non- Indian tourists to the border crossing Jaigaon / Phuentsholing next to the flight to Paro in Bhutan is the only way to enter Bhutan.

Demography

At the 2001 census the population was 38 664 inhabitants. Of these, 52% are male and 48% female. 16% of the population is under 6 years. The literacy rate is 52 % (men 59 %, women 43%), which is below the national rate of 59.5 %.
