Jake Heggie

Jake Heggie ( born March 31, 1961 in West Palm Beach, Florida) is an American composer and pianist.

Jake Heggie composed so far the operas " Dead Man Walking " (2000), "The End of the Affair " (2004), "At The statue of Venus" ( 2005) and " To Hell and Back " (2006). In addition, he created 200 songs, chamber music and orchestral works.

Heggie 1998 was "composer in residence" at the San Francisco Opera. His first opera, Dead Man Walking was first performed there in 2000 with great success. The libretto by Terrence McNally. Joe Mantello directed. Since then, this work has appeared in 15 international productions, among others at the New York City Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Opera Pacific, Baltimore Opera, Calgary Opera, Semperoper Dresden, State Opera of South Australia and the Theater an der Wien. In 2007 alone, there are more than 50 performances on the program. His second opera, The End of The Affair in 2004, premiered at the Houston Grand Opera, with additional performances at the Madison Opera, the Seattle Opera and the Lyric Opera of Kansas City. 2005 Heggie collaborated once more with Terrence McNally and composed At the Statue of Venus for the Ellie Caulkins Opera House in Denver. His opera To Hell and Back ( libretto by Gene Scheer ) was commissioned by the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra and was premiered in November 2006 under the direction of Nicholas McGegan.
