Jake Shields

Jake Shields ( born January 9, 1979 in Mountain Ranch, California) is an American mixed martial arts fighter who fights in the middleweight class. He's Rumble on the Rock middleweight champion. Jake Shields is the first and last Elite XC Welterweight Champion. He is also a former Shooto world champion and Strikeforce middleweight champion. He has trained extensively with Cesar Gracie, and is a member of the "Scrap Pack", which includes Dave Terrell, Nick Diaz, Nate Diaz and Gilbert Melendez are.

Shields is the current third-ranked middleweight by Sherdog and the fourth- placed by MMAWeekly. He is (as of 2010) Sherdogs ninth -placed Pound -4 -pound fighter in the world.

In July 2010, Shields left Strikeforce and signed a contract with his new employer, the UFC. On 23 October, he was against Martin Kampmann his debut and defeated him on points.

Shields is a vegetarian and advocates for animal rights organization PETA.
