Jake Tsakalidis

Career

Tsakalidis, of his sports career started as a swimmer in Georgia, started at the age of 15 years, his basketball career at AEK Athens, where in 1996 he received a professional contract. By the summer of 2000 Tsakalidis belonged alongside players such as Michalis Kakiouzis, Dimosthenis Dikoudis or Nikolaos Zisis to the service providers in addition to his club and won the Greek Cup and the Cup Saporta. In the NBA Drafts 2000 Tsakalidis has been selected by the Phoenix Suns to 25th place and moved to the NBA. On 30 September 2003 Tsakalidis transferred in exchange for Brevin Knight, Robert Archibald and Cezary Trybanski along with his teammate Bo Outlaw to the Memphis Grizzlies. On 13 February 2007 he transferred in exchange for Scott Padgett to the Houston Rockets where he played until the end of the season. In September of the same year Tsakalidis returned after seven years in the NBA back to Greece and signed a contract with Olympiakos Piraeus. During his NBA career Tsakalidis came to a total of 315 missions, scored 4.8 points and 3.9 rebounds collected on average.

His debut in the Greek national was Tsakalidis on 7 July 1998 at the World Cup match against Nigeria, in which Greece won with 70-50 and Tsakalidis could score three points. His most last game for the national team was the 72-64 victory over Serbia and Montenegro in the 2003 European Championship in Sweden, where he totaled 16 points. In five years Tsakalidis came to 45 games in which he scored 303 points (6.73 in average) and took part in three European Championships and one World Championship.
