Jakob Ayrer

Jacob Ayrer the Elder (c. 1544 in Nuremberg, † March 26, 1605 ) was a German dramatist and writer of carnival games.

Life

Little is known about the circumstances of Ayrer. Ayrer Jacob was the son of the sculptor Christoph Ayrer. He lived as an ironmonger in Nuremberg, later he settled in Bamberg; probably then probably to study at the university theology and law. During this time it is detectable for some time as procurator.

In 1593 he was expelled from the city and he returned to Nuremberg. There he was already given a year later, the Civil Rights. His living he earned as imperial.
