Jakob Guttmann (rabbi)

Jakob Guttmann ( born April 22, 1845 in Bytom, Upper Silesia, † September 29, 1919 in Breslau) was a German rabbi and philosopher of religion.

After studies at the Rabbinical Seminary in Breslau and at the University of Breslau Guttmann was from 1874 to 1892 Chief Rabbi in Hildesheim. From 1892 to 1919 he served as rabbi of Breslau.

Jakob Guttmann was married to Beate nee Simonson (* 1858) from Copenhagen, which was very active in the Jewish community of Breslau. From this marriage came from Julius Guttmann.
