Jakob Sigismund von Reinach-Steinbrunn

Joseph Jakob Sigismund von Reinach Stone Brunn ( born August 19, 1683 Oberstein Brunn, Alsace, † December 16, 1743 in Pruntrut ) was from 1737 to 1743 Prince-Bishop of Basel.

Origin

Jakob Sigismund was the son of the officer Johann Kaspar Jacob Sigmund Freiherr von Reinach Stone Brunn († 1693) and Maria Salome Lucia Pfirt († 1721).

Training

Johann Konrad studied at the Jesuit Gymnasium in Pruntrut and 1703-1705 philosophy and theology at the Collegium Germanicum in Rome.

Career

Already in 1707 he was Kapitular to 1717, he was ordained a priest. 1726 he assumed the role of provost of the cathedral chapter and Basler 1737 he was elected by the chapter to the bishop.

The Prince

Under Jakob Sigismund the unrest in Südjura flared up again. After the Confederation and the Empire wanted to help him not sustainable in the crackdown or could he concluded in 1739 a treaty with the French king Louis XV. to cooperate on security issues.
