Jakub Ostroróg

Jakub Ostroróg, Herb Nałęcz, (* 1516, † 1568), was part of the noble family Ostroróg, Starosta of poses, Generalstarost Great Poland and together with his brother Stanisław Ostroróg leader of the Reformation in Great Poland. He belonged to the Bohemian Brethren, who were the Jan Hus trailers in the area.

Life and meaning

Jakub Ostroróg was the eldest son of Urszula z Kutna Potocki Waclaw and Ostroróg, Castellan of Kalisz. His grandfather, Jan Ostroróg was voivode and castellan of Poznan Wielkopolska.

Jakub Ostroróg occurred in 1553, his wife following, to the Protestant faith of the Bohemian Brethren over.

After his appointment as Starosten of poses and General Star east of Great Poland in 1566 by King Sigismund II Augustus strengthened significantly its influence as perfidious stakeholders of Protestantism over the affairs of the Royal Polish cities. So expanded in Poznan under his protection the Protestant community. In his powerful position, which gave him his king, he was able, much to promote the movement and he was one of the biggest advocates of Ruch Egzekucyjny (movement of law enforcement ). When he converted to Protestantism, followed him a great multitude of his subjects.

Jakub Ostroróg was the Owner of the Manor of Międzychód. He owned land in Ostroróg, which he used as a residence for senior citizens of the Moravian Church.
