Jakub Uchański

Jakub Uchański (* 1502 in Uchanie, † April 5, 1581 in Łowicz ) was secretary and administrator of the goods of the Polish Queen Bona, from 1551 Bishop of Chelm, from 1561 (or 1557) Bishop of Cujavia, from 1562 Archbishop of Gniezno and from 1562 Primate of Poland. He was a proponent of an agreement with the Protestants in the Kingdom of Poland. Because of his attitude to Protestantism, he was even accused the Pope Paul IV as a heretic heresy and not confirmed in his office. During the two Interregna in his tenure, he was Interrex.

Importance

It is not known which bishop has ordained him. For a long time he was considered the "father " for a part of living today Bishops of the Roman Catholic Church (particularly in the Polish episcopate ), who sought their succession root for him. Uchański had thus also of great importance for the Roman Catholic Church. Recently, however, it is known that Jakub Uchański this line of succession never belonged. The provisional status is that they can be traced to a Bishop Claudio Rangoni, which was used in the years 1598 to 1607 as papal nuncio in Poland and Rebiba line belongs.

A prominent representative of Uchański - line of succession is Pope Pius XI.
