Jakub Wujek

Jakub Wujek (* 1541 in Wągrowiec, † 1597 in Kraków ) was a Polish Jesuit, religious writer and author of an early, influential Catholic translation of the Bible into Polish.

Wujek studied philosophy at the University of Vienna and Roman theology at the Collegium. He was the author of the translation of the Bible (the total edition was published in 1599, two years after his death), many religious writings and sermons. He also was the first rector of the Jesuit College poses (1571-1578), then from 1578 rector of the Jesuit College Vilnius, and after his conversion in 1579, the University of Vilnius to 1580 the first rector of the university.
