Jamaica (Musical)

Jamaica is a musical with music by Harold Arlen and lyrics by EY Harburg singing. The book wrote Harburg, together with Fred Saidy.

The premiere took place on 31 October 1957 at the Imperial Theatre in New York. The musical was produced by David Merrick, directed by Robert Lewis, the choreography drew Jack Cole. The well-known singer Lena Horne starred opposite Ricardo Montalban, the first Savannah and thus their first Broadway starring role. The musical was nominated in 1958 for a total of seven Tony Awards.

In German-speaking countries, the musical is hardly known today. Only the Theater in Cronenberg in Wuppertal played during the season 1996/97 in the musical revue It's show time No. 2 individual pieces.

Action

The poor Jamaican fisherman Koli love with the lovely Savannah. But this dream is to travel to New York and come to prosperity. That dream seems to her the rich Americans Joe Nashua to meet.

But during a hurricane rescues Koli her younger brother, so that they recognize their true love and accept life on the island.
