James Alonzo Stahle

James Alonzo Stahle ( born January 11, 1829 in West Manchester, York County, Pennsylvania, † December 21, 1912 in York, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1895 and 1897 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

James Stahle attended the common schools and the York Academy. He then completed an apprenticeship in the printing trade. Later he worked as a tailor. During the Civil War he served between 1861 and October 1864 in a unit from Pennsylvania in the army of the Union in which he rose to lieutenant colonel. Between 1869 and 1885 he worked for the financial management in York, Pennsylvania. He was also engaged in farming.

Politically, Steels joined the Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 1894 he was in the 19th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Democrats Frank Eckels Beltzhoover on March 4, 1895. Since he resigned in 1896 to further candidacy, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1897.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, James Stahle operated again in agriculture. He died on December 21, 1912 at his estate near York.
