James Patrick Dutton ( born November 20, 1968 in Eugene, Oregon, United States) is an American astronaut who from his first space mission STS -131 aboard Space Shuttle Discovery after a 15- day stay in orbit on 20 April 2010 returned to the earth.

STS -131

On 5 December 2008 Dutton was named as a pilot for the STS- 131 aboard Space Shuttle Discovery. Then he launched on April 5, 2010, along with six other astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS). There he spent a total of 10 days with his colleagues to leave the station again on April 17. For April 19, 2010, the first trial was scheduled for a re-entry, which was postponed for 24 hours due to bad weather at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. On April 20, 2010, Discovery returned to Earth, and sat, one orbit later than originally planned (due to bad weather in the circumnavigation before) securely on the Shuttle Landing Facility at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Thus, his first, a total of 15 - day mission ended in Orbit
