James Forman

James Forman ( born October 4, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois, USA, † January 10, 2005 in Washington, DC, USA ) was an American civil rights activist.

The majority of his childhood was spent Forman along with his grandmother in Marshall County, Mississippi. In 1947 he finished high school. He then went to the University of Southern California and was beaten there in the 2nd semester of policemen. He then moved to Roosevelt University in Chicago. There he was a student leader in political issues.

In 1961, Forman was head of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, which fueled the civil rights movement in the universities.

Forman is best known as leader of the nonviolent student movement in the 1960s. He was the main organizer of the March on Washington in 1963.

Forman died in early 2005 from cancer, he was 76 years old.
