James Foster (ice hockey)

James " Jimmy" Foster ( * September 13, 1905 in Glasgow, United Kingdom, † January 4, 1969 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada ) was a British professional ice hockey goaltender in 1936 with his compatriot Olympic champion among others.

Career

Jimmy Foster began his career as a hockey player in Canada, where he studied at the University of Manitoba. Later he joined the Moncton Hawks, with whom he in the years 1933 and 1934 respectively to the Allan Cup, the Canadian Amateur Championship title won. In 1935 he returned to his British homeland, where he played first for the Richmond Hawks in the English National League. From 1936 to 1939 he was at the Harringay Greyhounds between the posts. In 1940, the goalkeeper returned to Canada, where he played for the Glace Bay Miners and As de Québec.

Internationally

For the UK, Foster participated in the World Championships in 1937, 1938 and 1939. He also represented his country at the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, where he won the gold medal with his team. The tournament was also counted as World and European Championships, which is why he also won with his team this title. In 1950 he was inducted into the British Ice Hockey Hall of Fame.
