James Francis McIntyre

James Francis Cardinal McIntyre ( born June 25, 1886 in New York, USA, † July 16, 1979 in Los Angeles ) was Archbishop of Los Angeles.

Life

James Francis McIntyre studied in New York trays Catholic theology and philosophy and received on 21 May 1921, the sacrament of Holy Orders. After two years as a parish chaplain in New York, he was vice-chancellor in 1923 and 1934, Chancellor of the Archdiocese. 1934, the honorary title of a private chamberlain, he was awarded his holiness.

On 16 November 1940 he received the appointment as Titular Bishop of Cyrene, and auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of New York. He received his episcopal consecration on January 8, 1941 Archbishop Francis Cardinal Spellman; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishop in New York, Stephen Joseph Donahue, and the then military Bishop of the United States, John Francis O'Hara, CSC. In 1945 he became Vicar General of the Archdiocese. A year later he was appointed by Pope Pius XII. Titular Archbishop of Paltus and Koadjutorerzbischof of the Archdiocese of New York. 1948 James Francis McIntyre received the appointment as Archbishop of Los Angeles. In 1953, Pope Pius XII. as cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Anastasia in the College of Cardinals.

James Francis McIntyre took the Pope on several occasions as Papal legate and took in the years 1962-1965 at the Second Vatican Council in part. The management of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, he put 1971 for reasons of age. James Francis McIntyre died on 16 July 1979 in Los Angeles, and was buried in the mausoleum of the bishops at the Calvary Cemetery in East Los Angeles. In 2003 his remains were transferred to the newly constructed Metropolitan Cathedral of Los Angeles ' Our Lady of the Angels ".
