James Lindesay-Bethune, 16th Earl of Lindsay

James Randolph Lindesay -Bethune, 16th Earl of Lindsay ( born November 19, 1955) is a Scottish politician ( Conservative Party ), member of the House of Lords and was from 1995 to 1997 Parliamentary Under- Secretary of State for Scotland.

Family

James Lindsay is the son of David Lindsay, 15th Earl of Lindsay and his first wife Mary Douglas -Scott - Montagu. On March 2, 1982, he married Diana Mary Chamberlayne - Macdonald. The marriage produced five children have emerged:

  • Lady Frances Mary Lindsay -Bethune (* 1986)
  • Lady Alexandra Penelope Lindsay -Bethune (* 1988)
  • William Wolf Lindesay -Bethune, Viscount Garnock (born 30 December 1990)
  • Hon David Nigel Lindsay -Bethune (* 1993)
  • Lady Charlotte Diana Lindsay -Bethune (* 1993)

Life

He attended Eton College and studied at the University of Edinburgh and the University of California, Davis afterwards.

Policy

In 1989 he took the title of Earl of Lindsay and the seat in the upper house of his father. 1994 to 1995 he was Deputy Chairman of the Inter- Party Committee on Environment Union. 1995 to 1997 he was responsible Parliamentary Under- Secretary of State for Scotland and in this period for agriculture, fisheries and environmental protection.
