James Mangold

James Mangold ( born December 16, 1964 in New York City ) is an American film director and screenwriter.

Life

Mangold's parents were painters. He studied at the Faculty of cinematography from Columbia University 's School of the Arts and the California Institute of the Arts. Later he worked with cartoon animation for The Walt Disney Company.

Mangold made ​​his debut as a director with the film Love Hunger ( 1995) with Liv Tyler. For this film he won the prize of the Festival Internacional de Cine de Gijón in two categories and price of the Sundance Film Festival. Later he led, inter alia, directed in the film Girl, Interrupted (1999) with Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie Angelina Jolie for the film won Oscar award. He took on a small supporting role in The Sweetest Thing (2002) in the film comedy Super.
