James McNerney

Walter James "Jim" McNerney, Jr. ( born August 22, 1949 in Providence, Rhode Iceland ) is an American businessman. Since 30 June 2005, he is Chief Executive Officer (CEO ) of the U.S. aircraft company Boeing.

Training

McNerney ended 1967, the New Trier High School and made in 1971 at Yale University with a bachelor's degree in American Studies. In 1975, he received his MBA from Harvard Business School.

Career career

After studying McNerney began his career from 1975 to 1978 with Procter & Gamble in Marketing as a Brand Manager. He then worked from 1978 to 1982 as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company, most recently as Senior Manager. He spent the next 18 years at various subsidiaries of the company General Electric. At first he was General Manager of GE Mobile Communications (1982-1988) and then president of GE Information Services ( 1988-1989). Further stations at GE were:

  • GE Electrical Distribution and Control, 1991-1992, President and CEO
  • GE Asia- Pacific, 1993-1995, President
  • GE Lighting, 1995-1997, President
  • GE Aircraft Engines, 1997-2000, President and CEO

In the years 2000 to 2005 he worked as chairman and CEO of 3M, before he became CEO of Boeing in 2005.
