James "Sugar Boy" Crawford

James "Sugar Boy" Crawford, Jr. ( born October 12, 1934 in New Orleans, † September 15, 2012 ibid ) was an African-American R & B musician. He sang and played the piano and trombone.

Crawford founded at a young age is an R & B band called "The Chapaka Shawee " ( Creole for "We are not raccoons "). When she got a recording contract with Chess Records, they were renamed " Sugar Boy and his Cane Cutters ". For the band was temporarily Snooks Eaglin also.

In 1954 she had a hit with Jock -A- Mo, written by Crawford. The piece was reprinted in 1965 by the Dixie Cups Iko Iko and as often since gecovert, including Dr. John, the Belle Stars, The Grateful Dead and Cyndi Lauper.

1963 Crawford was crushed by police and severely injured; it took him two years to get back on its feet. He did not return to the music business, singing gospel in the church and only appeared sporadically at events. In 1995 he sang on the album Let Them Talk of his grandson Davell Crawford. James Crawford died in 2012 after a short illness.
