James Wilson (composer)

James Wilson ( born September 27, 1922 in London, † August 6, 2005 in Dublin ) was an Anglo- Irish composer.

Life

Wilson learned from 1931 piano. He served during the Second World War in the Royal Navy. He then studied composition at Trinity College of Music in London. In 1948, he moved to Ireland. Later he became professor of composition at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin and led the Irish Composition Summer School. He was a member of Aosdána, an association of Irish artists. He composed seven operas, three symphonies, twelve concertos, several ballets, two hundred songs and choral and instrumental music.
