Jamkaran

Jamkaran Mosque, also called Dschamkaran Mosque, is a Shia place of worship in Qom.

The construction and the emergence of Jamkaran Mosque is based on a tradition, after the 12th Imam, called the Mahdi, is said to have retired to his so-called small concealment in the local fountain.

The Sheikh Hassan ibn Muthlih Jamkarani was in 994 a revelation given after the Mahdi ordered him released, around the fountain there to build a mosque. Today the Jamkaran Fountain and the associated Mosque is one of the largest Shiite places of pilgrimage in Iran.

After Shiite mythology of the Mahdi could emerge also from the dry fountain in Qom to take up his rule.
