Jan Baptist Xavery

Johann Baptist Xavery (born 30 March 1697 in Antwerp, † July 19, 1742 in The Hague) was a Dutch sculptor of the Baroque.

Xavery was the son of the sculptor Albert Xavery, in which he also learned his craft in Antwerp.

His travels took him through Italy and Vienna, where he perfected his craft. Later, after his return to the Netherlands, he was a sculptor at the court of Prince William IV of Orange.

Xavery designed mainly jamming in terracotta, ivory and wood. In addition, he was also known as a painter.

  • Tomb of Count Johan Paulinus Lillienstedt in Stralsund St. Mary's Church, which is considered the most important marble image in the Baroque style in Pomerania ( 1732)
