Jan Brueghel the Elder

Jan Brueghel the Elder [ bɾø ː ɣəl ] (* 1568 in Brussels, † January 13, 1625 in Antwerp ), also called Samtbrueghel or Blumenbrueghel, was a successful Flemish painter and as a son of Pieter Brueghel the Elder ( known Bauernbrueghel ) part of painters dynasty Brueghel.

Life

Early traveled Jan Brueghel the Elder. via Cologne to Italy, where he from 1590 to 1595 in Milan and Rome is detectable. In Rome he became friends with the landscape painter Paul Bril. Like him, he worked fruitful and labor together with John Rottenhammer, the figurative elements - religious, mythological scenes, putti - into composed in the representations. After Jan Brueghel the Elder. was returned to Flanders, he was inducted in 1597 as a master in the Antwerp painters' guild son, the Sint Lucas Guild. Work

Among the works by Jan Brueghel the Elder. include many landscape paintings of brilliant quality, usually with small decorative figures that animate the wide landscape scenery, and can also represent biblical or historical scenes. Also for his meticulous flower paintings he is famous, which may take the form of still life or floral wreaths. He also painted many mythological paintings and allegories, such as The Four Elements and The Five Senses (1617-1618, in collaboration with Rubens).

With Rubens, he also painted two more pictures, further he painted with Sebastian Vrancx from Antwerp and John Rottenhammer from southern Germany.

Although he comes from a family of artists, he resigned in the signature on the statement of his first name.

The painting country road with farm wagons and cattle was stolen in 1979 when art theft of Gotha from the exhibition at peace flintlock and since then is considered lost.
