Jan Chryzostom Pasek

Jan Chryzostom Pasek (c. 1636 in Węgrzynowice, † 1701 in Niedzieliszki at Szczurowa ) was a Polish nobleman ( Szlachcic ) and writer. His memoirs are a valuable historical source of the Polish Baroque, Sarmatism and morals of Poland-Lithuania in the 17th century.

Life and work

Pasek was born into a small noble family from Rawa Mazowiecka, attended a Jesuit school and joined the army at 19 a. He served under Hetman Stefan Czarnecki and participated in numerous campaigns ( and Others v. Sweden, Denmark, Russia and Turkey ) participated. Towards the end of his life he wrote an autobiographical diary, a copy of which was found in the 18th century and made him posthumously famous.
