Jan Hanuš

Jan Hanus ( born 2 May 1915 in Prague, † July 30, 2004 ) was a Czech composer.

Life

Hanus studied from 1932 to 1940 conducting with Pavel Dědeček at the Prague Conservatory and took private composition lessons with Otakar Jeremiáš. He worked in various music publishers and published the collected works of Dvořák Zdeněk Fibich and and a critical edition of the works of Leoš Janáček. He worked as head of the Czech Society for Music Education and the International Society for Music Education of the Czech section and was a member of the festival committee of the Prague Spring.

Hanus has composed five operas and three ballets, seven symphonies and other symphonic works, a violin and a cello concerto, chamber music, organ works, eight fairs, a John and St. Matthew Passion, cantatas, choruses and songs.
