Jan Hendrik de Boer

Jan Hendrik de Boer ( born March 19, 1899 in ruins, today De Wolden, † April 25, 1971 in The Hague) was a Dutch physicist and chemist.

He studied at the University of Groningen and then worked in industrial research. During the Second World War, he was first in the Netherlands, then in the United Kingdom, responsible for a laboratory for chemical weapons defense. After the Second World War, he returned to the Netherlands in 1950 and also taught at the Technical University of Delft.

He developed together with Eduard van Arkel, named after two researchers van Arkel -de Boer process for obtaining highly pure metals, which is used especially for titanium, zirconium and hafnium. In addition, he developed pioneering results in the field of heterogeneous catalysis.
