Jan Holschuh

January Holschuh ( born August 9, 1909 in Beerfelden; † 2 August 2000 Michel City ) was a German sculptor and designer.

He was one of the most important contemporary artists in the field of ivory carving. In addition to large sculptures he produced on a large scale miniature sculptures made ​​of ivory, mammoth and amber, as well as jewelry. Many of his more than 200 ivory works are exhibited in the German Ivory Museum Erbach.

After an ivory carver teaching in Erbach he continued his education in Königsberg and studied from 1931 to 1933 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Weimar. From 1934 he was artistic director of the Amber manufactory Königsberg, until he returned to Erbach in 1950.

For his artistic work, he has received numerous honors, including the Grand Prix of the 1929 World Exposition in Barcelona and the State Prize of Munich in 1966. His work " Sermon on the Mount " from 1959 is considered to be one of the highlights of the abstract ivory carving.
