Jan Hřímalý

January Hrimaly ( Johann or Ivan Hrimaly, born April 13, 1844 in Pilsen, .. † 11 Januarjul / January 24 1915greg in Moscow) was a Czech violinist and music teacher.

Life

After his first violin lessons, he studied until 1861 at the Prague Conservatory with Moritz Mildner. After concerts in Germany he was from 1862 to 1869 concertmaster of the Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra. At the invitation of Nikolai Rubinstein, he became a teacher in 1869, 1874 professor at the Moscow Conservatory.

He led a string quartet, conducted the symphony orchestra and as a soloist was an expert on the compositions of Tchaikovsky. As a teacher, he continued the style of his predecessor and teacher Ferdinand Laub and founded a Moscow school of violin playing. Among his pupils were violinists Issay Barmas, Konstantin Dumchev July Conus, Lia Ljuboschiz, Alexander Pechnikov and others.

Hrimaly wrote several musikpädagigische works, which are used up to the present in violin lessons. His brother Vojtěch Hrimaly was also known as a violinist and composer, his brother Jaromir Hrimaly (1845-1905) was a cellist.
