Jan Jahn

Jakub Jan Quirin Jahn ( born June 4, 1739 Prague, † July 18, 1802 ibid ) was Czech draftsman, painter and theorist and historian of Fine Arts.

Life

After attending the gymnasium of Piaristen in Prague, he learned the art of drawing first with his father, and later with the painters Ferdinand Schor and František Xaver January Palek. He continued his studies at the University of Vienna in 1761, of which he was an honorary member in 1767. This was followed by journeys through Germany, the Netherlands and France. Since the painting end of the 18th century went through a difficult time ( the Baroque period came to an end, many religious orders were dissolved by Joseph II ) took Jahn in order to earn his livelihood to a cloth shop.

Person

Jahn was one of the average artists of his time. He stood out rather by its historical and theoretical knowledge of art.

Jahn was a member of the Society of Patriotic Art Friends ( Společnost vlasteneckých přátel umění ).

Works

Jahn painted architectural images, participated in the plans of the Estates Theatre ( Estates Theatre ) and in studies of technical drawings on the Karlstejn Castle with. There were portraits and thumbnail images.
