Jan Jelinek

Jan Jelinek is a German electronic music producer. Since 2008 he runs the record label Faitiche. The first release was Ursula Bogner Recordings 1969-1988. He also collaborates with the Chicago label Hefty Records Electronics.

Life

After studying philosophy and sociology, he turned to since moving to Berlin in 1995 increasingly to electronic music. His music is largely based on samples taken from sources however are recognizable by strong alienation not always easy. Nevertheless, he refers in some cases, with the titles of his CDs on his sources and influences. This applies to "Loop - Finding - Jazz - Records" and " Cosmic Pitch" to. If in the former case, the reference obviously so in the latter, both the CD itself as well as individual pieces is indirectly referred to the Krautrock of the 1970s in the title.

Jelinek also published under the pseudonyms colors ( since 1998) and grams. As a color it is based, building on Soul samples, more pronounced Dub and electronic dance music. In this way, the music can be best described as experimental dub. As a gram, he tries to find a compromise between " audible " minimal electronics and " danceable " music. In music magazine Intro this was called "additive seconds of music ." Jelinek's work can be - especially if one includes his works under the pseudonyms - hardly believe it conceptually. Most likely they can perhaps be characterized as a mixture of Clicks & Cuts, Electronica, intelligent dance music, glitch and Micro sound.

His live performances with a laptop were partially published (eg improvisations and edits, 2002).

Prizes and awards

Readers of music and lifestyle magazine De: Bug voted him the best producer of the year 2002 2012 Jelinek received the Karl Sczuka prize of 5,000 euros for his studio production Know Otahiti. ?
