Jan Kubelík

January Kubelík ( born July 5, 1880 in Prague; † 5 December 1940 ) was a Czech violinist and composer.

Life

Even as a child Kubelík perfected his violin playing, he practiced 10 to 12 hours daily. Later he studied at the Prague Conservatory with Otakar Ševčík together.

From 1898, toured as a soloist and avid Kubelík by his virtuosity and his flawless violin performance, 1902, he was awarded a gold medal of the Royal Philharmonic Society in London. In addition to performances and recordings as a violinist, he also wrote, among other things, six violin concertos. In the composition of the first concert him stood the famous composer Josef Bohuslav Foerster aside. All others have written Kubelík thereafter but without outside help. 1904 acquired Kubelík the Horskyfeld castle.

Although he stood up to his death on the stage, suffered his career in the 1920s, a kink, which was due in part to the rise of violin virtuoso Jascha Heifetz, of the other part caused by the censure of their peers at his emotionless style of play.

In the 1930s Kubelík be ruined financially, reason was the purchase of the Castle Red Tower in Burgenland.

Kubelík played on a Stradivarius, which was built in 1715.

His son was the composer and conductor Rafael Kubelik, literary honored him Carl Sandburg Chicago Poems (1916).
