Jan Lam

John Paul Ferdynand Lam ( born January 16, 1838 in Stanislav / Stanisławów, Galicia; † August 3, 1886 in Lviv ) was a journalist and writer of Polish nationality in the Danube monarchy.

Lam, an offspring of one of Hanau immigrated to Austria family, studied from 1855 to 1859 Jus and philosophy at the University of Lviv, made as a cadet with the Italian campaign, participated in the rank of captain in the Polish uprising of 1863 and then lived as an editor in Lviv.

As a humorist he acquired especially through his published in various newspapers week chronicles great reputation. He also wrote a series of stories, such as:

  • The War Department,
  • Miss Emilia,
  • To be gold-plated heads,
  • Idealists,
  • Weird careers,

And others which reveal all a caustic, satirical edge.
