Jan Marijnissen
Johannes Guillaume Christianus Andreas Marijnissen known when Jan Marijnissen ( born October 8, 1952 in Oss ) is a Dutch politician. He was from 1994 to 2008 Leader of the socialistic Partij ( SP) in the Second Chamber, and since 1988 chairman of the party.
Life
Marijnissen was born as the youngest of four children in a strict Catholic environment. The father Guille Marijnissen (* 1911) was a watchmaker, her mother Marie Kemp (* 1909) daughter of a butcher. After leaving the " Hogere Burger School" ( HBS, a kind of high school ) shortly before the exam without completion, he worked at the slaughterhouse, in an ice cream factory, at a shipyard and various metal factories in Oss. In addition to his professional activities, he helped build the then Maoist Socialist Party. In 1975, he was, at age 23, was elected as the youngest member of the council yet. In 1987 he was elected chairman of the Socialist Party deputy in the Provincial Assembly of North Brabant and 1988. Under his aegis, the SP turned away from Marxism -Leninism and Maoism and ran a pragmatic approach, but without departing from the basic socialist ideas.
With the first entry of the Socialist Party in the Second Chamber of the States General in the parliamentary elections of 1994 Marijnissen came as a deputy in the Dutch parliament, where he took over the group's presidency. Since then, he was re-elected in the parliamentary elections. Meanwhile, the SP was the third largest party in the Netherlands. Marijnissen is considered charismatic populist left and " uncrowned king of polls ".
Marijnissen already put ( dim Effe, een rebel in The Hague) in 1998 his memoir and published a series of political or philosophical books, which earned him the nickname " Oracle of Oss ". In the vernacular, it is also called as an allusion to his political past as Maoist Maorijnissen.
Marijnissen occurred on 17 June 2008 from his position as leader of the SP for health reasons. He had four herniated discs in 2007 and therefore had to turn his back on the last year of the policy several months.
Marijnissen is married and has one daughter. He is a fan of Dutch football club Feyenoord Rotterdam.
